The Medical Devices Epidemiology and Real World Data Sciences (MD
EPI-RWDS) organization develops real world evidence to support
market access, safety assessments, regulatory agency approvals,
product development, and value assessments of medical device
products and fosters methodological excellence across the medical
device sector at J&J. The MD EPI-RWDS team develops real world
evidence using large administrative or electronic health record
patient-level databases to answer questions related to safety,
product development, health economics and outcomes research (HEOR),
and other clinical or commercial activities. These may involve
analysis of comparative effectiveness of new technology, machine
learning analyses to predict patient outcomes, safety signals,
disease burden or progression, standard of care, cost/reimbursement
patterns, digital and wearable tools to identify patient
experience, and clinical/health economic outcomes.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Leading key real world data epidemiology research projects to
answer pertinent research questions in collaboration with internal
and external stakeholders.
Developing research protocols or research outlines for real-world
data analysis from claims data or electronic health records
Integrating data into models from a variety of sources including
retrospective database analyses, clinical trials, health-related
quality of life studies, costing studies, systematic literature
reviews, robotic or digital app surgical data, as well as
prospective physician or patient epidemiological studies. S/he may
also lead the development and/or statistical analysis of these
studies as required.
Managing all interactions with internal J&J research and
commercial stakeholders while applying deep understanding of
business needs to lead patient-centric, impactful research.
Working closely with J&J stakeholders to develop strategic
insights into global evidence gaps and to generate strategies for
addressing gaps and ensuring worldwide company success.
Leading KOL discussions and forums.
Shaping the external environment through participation in meetings
and forums and leading podium presentations at large international
conferences for orthopedics and real world data science.
Developing research methodologies and implementing state-of-the-art
data analytical approaches for real world data research.
Developing tools that explain and capture local data for the
adaptation of models as well as develop clear, detailed and
accurate documentation (technical report and presentation file) for
Leading the preparation and submission of manuscripts for
publication in peer-reviewed journals.
An advanced degree is required, PhD preferred, in an appropriate
field (Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Economics,
Economics/Commerce, Public Health, Health Administration or
Operations Research or related) with a minimum of 8 years of
experience is required.
Experience with some medical device or pharmaceutical industry or
consulting experience is preferred.
High level of competency using standard statistical software
(working knowledge of R is required) and/or database programming is

The base pay range for this position is minimum $129k to midpoint
$229k of range
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based
compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is
eligible for an annual performance bonus. The annual performance
bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve
annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the
corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses
