Job Description:
The President of Massasoit Community College invites dynamic, visionary, and enthusiastic leaders to join the Massasoit team. The president's vision is strategic, forward-thinking, and dedicated to a Student Success philosophy. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Student Services and Enrollment Management, the Director of Athletics is responsible for the development, management, and supervision of the Massasoit Community College intercollegiate athletics, intramurals and sports recreation programs. The Director also (1) provides visionary leadership, strategic planning and growth for these programs; (2) maintains programs that are committed to the mission of the college; (3) continually strives for a better student-athlete experience that includes retention and graduation; (4) administers the overall athletic department budget; and (5) manages the administrative, and coaching staffs.Responsibilities and Duties:Essential Functions

  • Ensures the College's intercollegiate athletics program achieves the goals of competitive accomplishments and academic success through the management of personnel, budgetary, facility, and academic resources available to the athletics program.
  • Develops policies and procedures designed to assure achievement of established athletic and academic objectives, and continuous evaluation of individual and unit performances toward achievement of those objectives.
  • Ensures compliance with the National Junior College Athletics Association, Region -XXI rules and regulations, particularly those regarding student eligibility to participate in intercollegiate athletics.
  • Provides mentoring, leadership, and supervision of all coaches and other department staff including student workers. Responsible for managing an 11-team athletic program, a fitness center, and intramurals.
  • Develops an effective coaching staff by recruiting and hiring qualified head coaches, providing guidance on departmental and institutional policies, and coaching philosophy. -
  • Creates and manages the departmental budget and maintains appropriate spending for equipment, facilities, and other expenses.
  • Facilitates the personal development, athletic improvement, and achievement of academic goals for student-athletes by creating a culture which promotes those values and establishes an environment for students to be successful.
  • Provides a structured supportive student experience that includes but is not limited to providing opportunities for academic assistance to student-athletes and monitoring the academic progress of participating student-athletes. This includes working in conjunction with the Student Athlete-Academic Advisor to facilitate student academic success and compliance.
  • Regularly assess all athletic programs and recommends changes to the Vice-President of Student Services and Enrollment Management.
  • Develops a schedule of intercollegiate athletics contests which supports the established goals of the athletics program. This should ensure the schedule includes an appropriate balance of home and away games and that required facilities (i.e., fields, courts, arenas) are available to support the schedule.
  • Coordinates an intramural/sports recreation program for students securing and overseeing the maintenance of facilities and developing rules and guidelines for participants and volunteers.
  • Guarantees that the quality and quantity of medical care is available to student-athletes by providing athletic trainers to ensure proper care and supervision during athletic events and training sessions.
  • Contributes to the overall success of the intercollegiate athletics program by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Vice-President of Student Services and Enrollment Management, including professional development.
  • Focuses on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions.Additional Responsibilities

    • Serve on committees as appropriate.
    • Additional duties as assigned..
      • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Sports Management or related field.
      • Minimum 3-5 years of experience working in collegiate athletic administration.
      • Experience supervising coaches and staff.
      • Excellent oral and written skills.
      • Ability to multitask and troubleshoot at any given time.
      • Need to be able to make quick, informed decisions while balancing what is best for our students academically and athletically.
      • Full knowledge of athletic policies, procedures and regulations at the College, the athletic department and the NJCAA.Preferred Qualifications:
        • Master's degree in Athletic/sport Administration, Business Administration, Physical Education, Recreation or related field.
        • Certification in CPR and AED.
        • Coaching experience at the high school or college level.
        • Certified Service Technician on the technical aspects of pool maintenance and operation.
        • Experience putting together athletic budgets and allocating athletic funds.
        • Experience in a Community College setting.COVID VACCINATION REQUIREMENT: -Candidates for employment should be aware that all Community College students, faculty, and staff are required to be fully vaccinated.           Additional Information:
          Position Status: Non-unit Professional, full-time state funded with benefits.Salary: $77,207 - $100,367 (annually), commensurate with education and experience.Worksite: Assignments will include all Massasoit sites.Deadline to Apply: January 29, 2023
