An Official website of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Job Description Description The Department of Mental Health (DMH) Brockton Multi Service Center (BMSC) is seeking an experienced and skilled physician for the role of Outpatient Psychiatrist to become part of a dynamic team to aid in the recovery of persons treated within community mental health center. The ideal candidate will provide initial evaluations and assessments, multidisciplinary treatment plans, and daily management of assigned patients in the program. The Outpatient Psychiatrist will work closely with Administration, Medical Staff, and all other clinical and administrative support staff to ensure the delivery of quality psychiatric care, and maintain professional competence. BMSC provides community mental health services to adults with serious mental illness with the goal of enhancing autonomy, safety and ability to live and thrive in the community. Our multi-disciplinary treatment team approach necessitates an ability to work effectively with multiple professionals and to partner with family members and community service providers. A variety of treatment modalities are used, including psychopharmacologic, psychotherapeutic (individual, group and family), psycho-educational, behavioral, cognitive and milieu therapies.-- Please Note: This position is 24 hours per week, 1st shift. Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  • Provides clinical care and treatment for outpatient clients in the Clinic by scheduling regular appointments with assigned clients and performing necessary assessments in order to develop an appropriate treatment plan.
  • Carries a caseload and performs psychiatric diagnostic evaluations and provides ongoing psychopharmacological treatment to ensure high care of mentally ill persons served in the BMSC OP and teams.
  • Assess and responds to crisis and emergency situations by intervening immediately with appropriate clinical treatment or referral.
  • Provides clinical consultation to clinical and other community health direct care staff.
  • Assumes responsibility for all administrative and clinical documentation according to BMSC Standards, ROPs, third party payer, CMS and Joint Commission standards.
  • Provides state of the art consultation to clinical staff on complex cases involved seriously mentally ill and treatment refractory populations.--
  • Conducts clinical teaching and training on a variety of topics including disorders, psychopharmacology, dual diagnosis, and complex treatment issues.
  • Provides administrative oversight and clinical supervision to residents as assigned.
  • Files for Probate Guardianship, Section 35 Commitments or other documents are required by the court.
  • Demonstrates professional, courteous, and respectful style when dealing with clients, families, co-workers and other service providers. Required Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of the principles and practices of general medicine and psychiatry.
    • Ability to assess accurately information given to others either verbally or written.
    • Talent for supervising staff including techniques of supervision.
    • Current and valid Federal DEA registration,-- State DPH Controlled Substance registration and M A Driver's License Preferred Qualifications:
      • Record of experience and expertise in outpatient care of patients with serious mental illness is desired.
      • Understanding of psychiatric conditions and the treatment of psychiatric conditions.
      • Demonstrated capacity to work cooperatively within an interdisciplinary team and with other clinicians.
      • Knowledge of methods and procedures in the field of general medicine; and of principles of the development, implementation, and documentation of individualized care and treatment plans.
      • Ability to recognize medical conditions and refer for appropriate care.
      • Skilled in the prescribing of psychotropic and mental health medications.
      • Thoroughness, independence and excellent written and oral communication skills.
      • Capacity to assess, diagnoses, and prescribe/supervise treatment to assigned patients while conforming to regulatory standards and applicable laws to decrease psychiatric symptoms/disorders.
      • Competence in maintaining accurate records and exercise discretion in handling confidential information; resolve problems and conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner.
      • Ability to participate in annual training as well as any other required specific training in order to assure up to date skills and knowledge in required areas.
      • Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency
      • Current and valid registration as a physician under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine
