the orientation process of all nursing staff by assessing staff
competencies and providing on-going education for all direct care
employees, based on departmental needs. Job responsibilities are
carried out in direct consultation with the facilities Director of
Nursing. This position also assists in coordinating the orientation
process of all staff by assessing staff competencies and providing
on-going infection control (IC) education based on departmental
needs. In addition, it is responsible for facility-wide compliance
with all regulatory requirements involving infection control. It
also performs an ongoing assessment to identify the organization's
risks for the acquisition and transmission of infectious agents and
effectively conducts surveillance by collecting data and
interpreting the results. Finally, it implements infection
prevention and control processes and educates and collaborates with
leaders across the organization to effectively participate in the
design and implementation of the IC program.QualificationsEducation
for Nurse Educator:
- Bachelor degree in Nursing from a nursing accredited school
preferredExperience for Nurse Educator:
- Three (3) years of experience in a psychiatric or acute care
setting in nurse education or infection control is preferred
- Joint Commission knowledge and experience preferred
- Ability to analyze employee skills necessary in order to solve
technical, clinical, administrative, or managerial problems that
require a professional level of knowledge in a specific discipline
or design relatively complex plans, systems, and programs
- Work requires the communication skills necessary to interpret
facility policies in situations requiring preparation and
presentations to facility staff, manage the performance of
employees within a diverse department, or other duties requiring a
comparable level of communication skills
- Ability to read and communicate in English
- High degree of empathetic listening, tact and kindness toward
others
- The ability to communicate well verbally
- Excellent written, verbal, and computer skills Ability to work
with computers and the necessary software typically used by the
department Licenses/Certifications for Nurse Educator:
- Current license in the state of practice or possess a
multi-state compact license recognized by the state to practice
professional nursingResponsibilities
- Develops, plans, and maintains an effective staff education
program.
- Plans and coordinates the individualized orientation for all
nursing and direct care staff.
- Participates in facility-wide employee orientation.
- Coordinates and implements educational programs for nursing and
direct care staff.
- Develops a process to ensure clinical competency of all nursing
staff.
- Acts as a resource to nurses regarding clinical practice.
- Ensures that staff competencies are assessed and documented
during the orientation period, when implementing a new procedure,
and annually.
- Participates in the Performance Improvement program by
monitoring specific aspects of employee education and patient care
as required by the Department.
- Collaborates with the nursing management team in complying with
TJC, state, federal and local state policies requirements.
- Maintains knowledge of trends and developments in the filed by
reading appropriate articles, journals and related materials and by
attending seminar, conferences, etc.
- Develops, plans, and maintains an effective staff infection
control education program.
- Provides continuing infection control education program for all
staff.
- Participates in facility-wide employee orientation.
- Responsible for the evaluation, surveillance, statistical
analysis, and reporting of infections and communicable
diseases/conditions to leadership.
- Monitors, reviews, and revises the infection control and
employee health programs to improve outcomes.
- Analyzes data from infection control reports, assesses the
overall failure or success of key processes and recommends
corrective action among the residents and personnel.
- Develops and approves written policies and procedures
pertaining to infection control.
- Determines the type of surveillance method and criteria for
infection determination.
- Provides in-service education on infection control.
- Develops a process to ensure clinical competency of all nursing
staff.
- Acts as a resource to nurses regarding clinical practice.
- Ensures that staff competencies are assessed and documented
during the orientation period, when implementing a new procedure
and annually.
- Participates in the Performance Improvement program by
monitoring specific aspects of patient care as required by the
Department.
- Collaborates with the nursing management team in complying with
TJC, state, federal and local state policies requirements.
- Maintains knowledge of trends and developments in the filed by
reading appropriate articles, journals and related materials and by

- Demonstrates knowledge regarding infection control regulatory
agencies requirements.
- Maintains surveillance activities within the agency to monitor
internal and external causes of infection.
- Monitors trends in patient infection rates and completes
statistical reports to assist staff in responding to current
conditions.
- Make clinical rounds to all patient living areas to monitor
staff compliance with infection control guidelines.
- Develops, reviews, and revises policies as required.
- Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a
variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow
standardized procedures that may call for deviations.
- Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of
instructions and apply knowledge to different factual
situations.
- Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to
details.
- Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous
basis.
