Job Description:
Job Summary: Promotes the physical, social, behavioral,
emotional and skill development of adults to their highest
potential, in collaboration with licensed Occupational Therapist.
Under the direction of that Occupational Therapist, is responsible
for implementing the identified programs and services associated
with sensory-motor, cognitive, and activities of daily living
skills through the use of adaptive equipment, splinting and
developmental treatment techniques. Improves the resident's range
of motion, muscle strength and tone, coordination and level of
neurodevelopment; and sensory-motor exercises; assists in assessing
a resident's progress; maintains treatment records; provides
in-service training to direct-care and clinical staff; maintains
equipment; and attend team and department meetings. Essential
Functions
- Serves as a member of an Interdisciplinary team. Provides
treatment, guidance and instruction to residents in individual &
group settings. Assists in developing various communication skills
so as to enhance the person's ability to make his/her wants and
needs known.
- Follows individual plans of care in carrying our recommend
programs after a resident is evaluated by the Registered
Occupational Therapist.
- Collects data and writes progress notes as specified within
each resident's program plan.
- Maintains occupational therapy equipment in good repair and
makes simple adjustment as necessary.
- Assumes responsibility for ordering supplies and maintaining an
adequate inventory.
- Provides residents with sensitivity and confidentiality while
using creativity to promote motivation in treatment.
- Assists therapist with evaluation and record keeping procedures
as directed. Marginal Functions
- Assumes responsibility as a mandated reporter concerning
incidents of purported abuse/neglect of individuals as outlined in
the agency's policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are
reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. Working
ConditionsThe work is done primarily at Wrentham Developmental
Center. The work does not include significant usage of a motor
vehicle. The work may also require exposure to low to medium
amounts of noise in a long-term residential setting. On occasion,
the work may require flexible hours outside of normal business
hours. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- The ability to communicate clearly and effectively (both
written and orally) in a professional manner, with all levels of
employees.
- The ability to train, mentor, and direct others in a clinically
or process-oriented manner.
- Possesses the ability to lead others, inspire positive change
and good customer service is vital. Training, Academic and
Experiential Requirements 1. Degree in Occupational Therapy from an
approved college or university program.2. An Associate's degree in
Occupational Therapy Assisting and by the National Occupational
Therapist Association.3. Must be at least 21 years of age.4.
Experience with persons with Intellectual/Developmental
Disabilities is desirable.5. Successful background clearance,
physical, drug/alcohol screening Preferred Qualifications

multidisciplinary team.
