Come join us in Boston at the VA Boston Healthcare System (VABHS), New England's premier referral center for Veterans' healthcare. VABHS is the largest recipient of VA research funds in the nation and ranked #3 among 146 VA facilities nationally for overall employee satisfaction.

We are a Boston-based epidemiology and biomedical research organization. We are actively engaged in several large-scale observational and methodologic studies that employ the VA's massive electronic health records databases, along with other sources of data which require collaborative engagement with researchers across the VA. Data are primarily accessed through Microsoft SQL Server, as well as Windows and Linux based computing platforms. Our department is also pivotal in the creation and management of the VA-wide catalog of phenomic metadata for enhancing research and clinical operations. Our Data Management Team coordinates the curation and collection of research ready data for a diverse community of biomedical researchers, clinicians, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and informatics teams. We are seeking an experienced Data Analyst to join the team.

*Job Description/Responsibilities*
* Query electronic health record data using SQL to construct and clean large datasets
* Provide statistical expertise towards research projects and conduct statistical analysis using SAS
* Work closely with study team made up of other statistical programmers, biostatisticians, clinicians, epidemiologists and other investigators to identify patient cohorts, create analytic datasets, conduct analyses, and deliver analysis results
* Perform validation of programs and analytical datasets to ensure fulfillment of specifications and validity/integrity of results
* Complete requests in a timely manner, meeting appropriate timelines, while ensuring quality standards met
* Establish and maintain communication with study team to keep them updated on status of requests

*Skills / Experience*
* Master's degree in a public health domain, statistics, biostatistics, or epidemiology with 2+ years of statistical or database programming experience or statistical analyses
* Bachelor's degree, preferably in biostatistics, statistics, health informatics or computer science, with at 3+ years of statistical or database programming experience
* 2+ years of experience working with large-scale routine electronic health records
* Capable of working independently in preparing datasets, writing analytic plans, perform analysis and writing reports to facilitate research decisions making.
* Proficient programming skills using SQL, SAS & R
* Working knowledge of statistical analysis or data analysis
* Experience working with relational databases and/or electronic health record data for research
* Observational study or clinical trials research and analysis experience
* Experience with Python, MS, MySQL, Microsoft office tools
* Basic knowledge of study design, research methodology
* Excellent attention to detail, logic, and organizational skills.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
* Understanding of the healthcare domain, clinical, epidemiology and/or genomic data is a plus.
* Natural Language Processing experience is a plus

*Qualifications*
* MUST be a US Citizen and MUST clear a US government background check
* MUST have a Master's degree OR Bachelor's degree with 1 year of SQL programming experience
